Veteran uses innovation to help other vets
Wes Wood, MBA’17, faced a big question at the end of his military service: What’s next? Having served in the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan, he sought a Kelley MBA to dive deep into business and enhance the leadership skills he’d gained in the Army.
Shortly after beginning the top-ranked program, Wes got a job at Conexus Indiana as a workforce development manager. He discovered that companies often have success when they hire a veteran candidate, but those companies don’t know how to connect with enough veterans. Wes floated an idea that matured into INvets, a first-of-its-kind program designed to help veterans transition to civilian life and to connect Hoosier companies directly to veterans.
Wes says he employed skills from the Kelley Evening MBA throughout the launch—negotiations, marketing, talent engagement, operations, and management.
Perhaps the greatest tool he gained from the Kelley Evening MBA is credibility. With five years of experience in the military, Wes can speak to the capabilities and availabilities of veterans. His Kelley MBA helps him translate those for business leaders.
